Mini vs. Petite Photo Sessions: Which is Right for You?

Mini photo sessions are popular. Especially around fall time. But what does that mean and is it the right kind of session for you? So let me explain the concept and then hear my out on why I don’t offer them. And what I offer instead that is even better than mini sessions.

So the concept behind mini sessions is that it is a shorter family photo session. Which usually means that they are cheaper than a regular session. They don’t include the same amount of pictures as a regular session. Often mini sessions have a theme. Like a Christmas theme or maybe some flowers are in bloom and it’s a special thing.

Mini sessions are especially popular around fall time when families would like to have a nice picture to add to their holiday cards. All you really need is 1 nice photo. So why would you need a full photo session for that. A Christmas theme makes it extra attractive.

But in reality mini sessions means that you only get about 15 minutes in front of the photographer. And we all know that kids are kids. They decide when they’d like to cooperate. Some need a bit longer to warm up. And others need a bit longer to calm down and get used to the idea that they need to follow instructions to get their picture taken. This can be very stressful for everyone with little kids.

So here is where the petite sessions come in. This is the best of both worlds. It is not quite a full session. So you get the benefit that it is discounted to a regular photo session. But they are usually around 30 minutes long. As compared to 45-60 minutes of a full session. That means that it is enough time to get everyone to cooperate and get at least 1 nice photo. Or many more. Because it is a much more relaxed setting. So everyone benefits.
